This is my thing!!

My thing is Marine Science/International Studies

My goal is to develop world understanding of the role of our marine environment and its species to ensure protection of oceans for future generations. To do this we need to create better alliances with environmental awareness groups around the world.

I would like to complete a Bachelor of Science majoring in Marine Science and a Bachelor of International Studies majoring in International Relations and a language (Korean/Spanish) to help increase environmental awareness of our earth’s oceans and aquatic animals in countries around the world as well as in New Zealand. I want to study both of these degrees as a Combined degree and to do this I would have to go to university in Australia as no university in New Zealand offers both of these degrees together.

I believe that combining Marine Science and International Relations would be great to introduce the significant trends shaping the world such as the management of ocean use and activities to help protect the marine environment and its species. Marine Science includes a wide range of chemical, physical, biological and earth sciences which will develop my knowledge of oceans, coastal habitats, the role of oceans to provide resources and ensuring we protect and manage the oceans. International Relations will introduce, to me, an understanding of developments in world affairs, concerns of foreign policy and diplomacy, questions of justice and global social change whilst also equipping me with the necessary theoretical and practical tools to analyse and evaluate events both internationally and domestically.

I LOVE being in the water and seeing the amazing creatures that the ocean has to offer. I strongly believe that we need to protect these beautiful organisms. I have travelled to and experienced different countries and cultures so I have an open, broad mind. Snorkeling and scuba diving are the two things I have done in nearly every country I've been to. A few countries that I have been to are Fiji, New Caledonia, Spain, Greece, USA, Australia, Tenerife and Bali.  I like to embrace challenges and am determined to achieve goals I set myself, especially when people tell me I can’t do it!

A bit about me--This is why I stand out!!

I was born in the UK (Southampton) and moved to New Zealand with my family when I was 13. I now have citizenship in New Zealand. Moving to a new country and having to start a whole new life has really opened my eyes to the world. I am loving New Zealand, it's beautiful country and it's nature has inspired my goals for the future. I've had so many opportunities to do things here. I also like travelling to new countries (and learning new languages) to see the different wonders the world has to offer, and I've been lucky enough to travel to 15 countries, including New Zealand and England. Some languages that I have had a chance to learn are French and a bit of Korean, I am hoping to improve my Korean and want to learn Spanish one day! I'm a lively, energetic person and always like to try new things. I've participated in both team and individual sports; Swimming, Athletics, Cross Country and Football. I've had two jobs the first in a pizza place and the second in a law firm, I think that having a part time job whilst at high school is good for learning to prioritize things and develop an understanding of the real world. I'm also tutoring English to two, primary school, Korean students. I'm in my last year of high school. I'm really looking forward to future, excited to go to university, see new places, meet new people and hopefully make a difference in our world!
